A few places are still available for the first ever Run Rider offroad duathlon event taking place on Sun 16th October at Ashton Court, Bristol. As a busy MTB season draws to a close, this event offers a mix of running and riding at the end of the season and as the event is being run in conjunction with popular Bristol Oktoberfest, the Run Rider will not just benefit from one of the most fun to ride and recently refurbed mountain bike courses in the UK, but will also deliver a tough but beautiful off road running course.

Competitors start of with an offroad run through Ashton Court, then change to the mountain bike for an offroad ride on the new all weather course before finishing with a 2nd running leg. The distance varies depending on category, with a Standard (29km) and a Classic (45km) option - so that everyone can find the right distance and level of challenge. Competitors can either enter as solo athletes (doing all the legs of the event) or as pairs. Check out the video below for a taste of the new mountain bike course that the Run Rider will use.

Entries can be made online until Fri 14th October, and then on the day at the event, registration opens at 8am and both races start at 10am. All entrants get a free OMM technical t-shirt and the event is supported by VDO cycle computers, OMM, 220 Triathlon, For Goodness Shakes, Moti, Zero G and Out of Hand.

RUNNING COURSE

The running course is approx. 5.4km long and features approx. 145m of climbing. The course is a mixture of grass tracks, single dirt tracks, gravel roads and a very small bit of tarmac. It may be short but it is challenging!

MOUNTAIN BIKE COURSE

The mountain bike course in Ashton Court has been made famous through the Bristol Bikefest and the Bristol Oktoberfest. Both events are relay mountain bike event where competitors compete as many laps as possible in a certain time frame. The Bikefest which is now over 10 years a solid force in the UK cycling calendar attracts up to 2,000 riders who just can't get enough of the well flowing and fun packed Ashton Court course.

The mountain bike course is approx. 9km long with approx. 155m of climbing in it. The all-new, purpose built, all weather course offers a combination of dirt single tracks, gravel climbs, grassy double tracks and heaps of fun. Over £200,000 has been invested in redeveloping the cycling tracks within Ashton Court, and we will be using most of it, along with some added extras too. The course is pretty much 100% weather proof which will make for a fast and enjoyable duathlon - it doesn't matter what the weather has in store!
